The Oxford English Dictionary defines it as: "Anxiety, anguish, neurotic fear; guilt, remorse." Webster's 9th Collegiate Dictionary defines it as: "A feeling of anxiety, apprehension, or insecurity." So what is ANGST WRITING? Angst is a form of writing that encompasses many other styles (prose, poetry, letters. etc.). Angst work is a particular type of work that is used by the author to "vent" his or her emotions. It usually tends to be a darker, more passionate form of writing, that used to express the individual at one of his/her darkest times. How do we write angst? You don't just sit down one day and say; "Hey, I think I'll write some angst work." Angst is a by-product of what the author is feeling. It focuses usually on what the author feels is wrong, or what has made him/her angry. When I took a random survey of about one hundred people, and asked four main questions:
Although my answers were pretty varied, I narrowed down them down to percentages. Question one: "Do you write?"
Question two: "Have you ever heard of angst?"
Question three: "Have you ever written angst work?"
Question four: "What are your influences?"
"The Importance of Angst is that we all embrace angst here. It is what defines our existence. After all, what use would life be if everything was easy and there was nothing to worry about? Angst is a necessary element in the growth and development of any human being. It is what builds character; it provides contrast and depth to the human experience. Angst, at its simplest, is that which makes us human." As humans we have to experience some form of angst. But many of us choose to vent his with our writings, some succeed, some do not. Either way we tried. circle ¤f Ҥthing |
